Sound Level Meters

Noise Dosemeter & Hand-Held Noise Meter Combinations

Noise Dosemeter or Sound Level Meter?

A kit with both a hand-held meter and noise dosemeters offers:

  • Measurement of each worker's daily noise exposure
  • Quick spot checks with hand-held sound level meter
  • Easily monitor roving workers
  • Make detailed measurements for hearing protector assessments
  • Protected in a Peli case

For occupational noise measurement either a dosemeter or a sound level meter can often be used to achieve the same result: the measurement of noise and calculation of a worker's daily noise exposure, or LEP,d. In some workplaces it is better to use a hand-held sound level meter, while in others the best option is to use a noise dosemeter mounted on the worker. Here are some guidelines:

The Combination Kit from NoiseMeters is supplied in a tough Peli Case that protects the dBadges, sound level meter and accessories. More details...

Use a dosemeter when the worker is moving around continuously, or between many different locations. A dosemeter is also a better option when the worker is in a location that makes the use of a hand-held meter difficult, such as confined spaces or in the cab of moving machinery. Finally, a dosemeter can take much less time to use as you do not have to follow the worker around while making measurements. This is particularly important when monitoring the noise exposure of large numbers of workers.

Use a sound level meter to make quick and accurate spot-checks of the noise levels. A hand-held meter is ideal when people are only working at a few fixed locations - you measure at each and calculate the exposure as a Time Weighted Average. When the noise levels are particularly high a more advanced meter should be used to assess the level at the ear when wearing hearing protectors. The greatest benefit when using a sound level meter rather than a dosemeter is that you are present when the noise occurs, so you can assess if the sound levels are representative of normal operations.

Standard Combination Kits

We can create many combinations of sound level meter and dosemeter but the following are the most popular, covering most applications. If you want something different then just email us on info@noisemeters.co.uk.

Economy Combination Kit

  • Application - smaller business with mobile workers
    • Quick noise level checks using the sound level meter
    • Detailed noise at work assessment using the dBadges
  • Kit includes
    • dBadge Noise Dosemeters with Insight software
    • CEL240 Sound Level Meter
    • Sound Level Calibrator

The Economy Combination Kit is ideal for smaller industries with a lower number of mobile workers. The CEL240 is a Calibrated Class 2 Sound Level Meter and can be used for spot checks. The dBadge Noise Dosemeters are used for direct measurement of a worker's noise exposure.

CMB240/x Kit Contents

  • Noise Dosemeters:
    • dBadge Noise Dosemeters (mount on the worker's shoulder)
    • dBadge 3-way Charger
    • Insight noise data management software
  • CEL240 Sound Level Meter
  • Sound Level Calibrator
  • Calibration Certificates for dBadges, Sound Level Meter and Calibrator
  • Carrying Case

Integrating Combination Kit

  • Application - assessing the exposure of mobile and stationary workers
    • Mobile workers are assessed using the dBadge noise dosemeter
    • Spot checks and stationary workers assessed using the sound level meter
    • Leq, LEP,d and Peak measurements for EU noise at work regulations
  • Kit includes
    • dBadge Noise Dosemeters
    • CEL620A2 Integrating Sound Level Meter
    • Sound Level Calibrator
    • Insight software for downloading and reporting

The Integrating Combination Kit is for applications with highly mobile workers and stationary applications too. The dBadges are ideal when monitoring workers who move around between many different noisy locations, or who are in areas where measurements with a sound level meter is difficult or unsafe.

The CEL620A2 Sound Level Meter can be used to carry out a full and detailed assessment. A hand-held meter such as this is also convenient for assessing situations where workers are relatively stationary.

Data Logging - Insight Software

The dBadge Noise Dosemeters included in this kit are the Standard version that includes data logging and detailed Time History. You can leave them unattended on the worker and download the measurements at the end of the working shift. The graphical reports will clearly show the noisier times of day.

The CEL620A2 is also a data logging meter, storing the cumulative values such as Leq, LCpeak, min, max, etc. This meter does not store a Time History of the noise, but as you are present when making measurements this may not be needed. If you need more advanced logging then please consider the Octave Band Combination Kit.

The Insight software that is included with this kit downloads measurements from both the dBadge and the Sound Level Meter.

Octave Band Combination Kit

  • Application - measuring high noise exposure of mobile and stationary workers
    • Workers daily noise exposure is monitored using the dBadges
    • Spot checks and hearing protector assessment made using the meter
    • Leq, LEP,d and Peak measurements for EU noise at work regulations
  • Kit includes
    • dBadge Noise Dosimeters
    • CEL632B2 Octave Band, Data Logging Sound Level Meter
    • Sound Level Calibrator
    • Software for downloading and reporting

The Octave Band Combination Kit is ideal for applications with mobile and stationary workers, especially where the noise levels and exposure can sometimes be extremely high (greater than 90 dBA). At such high levels care should be taken when selecting the best hearing protectors.

The dBadge noise dosemeter can be used to monitor the workers' daily noise exposure, being particularly suited for very mobile workers and those in environments where it is difficult or unsafe to use a sound level meter.

The CEL632B2 Sound Level Meter can be used for spot checks and monitoring stationary workers. When the noise levels are very high the Real-Time Octave Band Measurements can be downloaded to a computer for further analysis. Using this method you can assess whether the hearing protection is adequate for the sound levels and frequency content of the noise.
